Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre

Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre Newgrange and Knowth
Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre interprets the Neolithic monuments of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth. The extensive exhibition includes a full scale replica of the chamber at Newgrange as well as a full model of one of the smaller tombs at Knowth.
The Newgrange monument itself is an example of a megalithic passage tomb and is widely recognised as one of the most important megalithic structures in Europe. It was built between 3100 and 2900 BC and is particularly well known for the way it was built, allowing the rising sun at the winter solstice to shine directly along the passage into the chamber for about 17 minutes, illuminating the chamber floor. This is demonstrated at the end of each tour using torches and lights placed along the passage.
All admission to Newgrange and Knowth is through the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre, Donore, Co. Meath. There is no direct access to these monuments. Visitors are brought from the Visitor Centre to the monuments by shuttle bus.
